In the time of the Roman empire Britain was invaded and became a part of the empire. The Romans advanced North, building defences, roads and towns. One such road called 'Dere street' passed through a small settlement in what is now County Durham. At this point it had to cross the River Tees, a bridge was built, and a fort after thar to defend the bridge. The settlement grew and became 'Piercebridge'.
This is an e-museum about Roman Piercebridge, including a full interactive 3D reconstruction of the site.
